First Sunday of Advent: PEACE

Peace is the second of the Advent and Christmas features which reflect on the NMI Identity Statement and NMI’s Five Areas of Impact. 

NMI is the global missions advocate in every local church, nurturing a spirit of missions, and mobilizing into action, impacting all people around the world. 

What does it mean to ‘nurture a spirit of missions’ and to keep nurturing the call to missions globally? To nurture is to pour our lives into the growth and health of the next generation, which means to hand over, not hand down, the mission of God that they may do the same. Peace is the bridge Christ came to be, and came to build, that all of humankind, regardless of age, culture, or circumstance may find their way home to God. 

When the Prince of Peace came and Immanuel was ‘with us,’ it was with the purpose of building bridges for all people to find their way home to God. Christ broke down all the dividing walls and brought PEACE to the earth. He charged his disciples to be ‘peace-makers’ wherever they went, and they (and we) always see the greatest impact of our lives through the channels of peace that we are in the face of hatred, division, and fear.
