First Sunday of Advent: HOPE

Hope is the first of the Advent and Christmas features. This feature helps us reflect on the NMI Identity Statement and NMI’s Five Areas of Impact. 

NMI is the global missions advocate in every local church, nurturing a spirit of missions, and mobilizing into action, impacting people around the world. 

What does it mean to be an ‘advocate’ for global missions? It is to ensure that in every local church we are telling the transformation stories of missions, preparing generations of future missionaries who will ‘go’ and those who will ‘stay’ and support them in sharing the good news of Jesus everywhere. 

Advent began with anticipation and preparation over many generations. It was focused on HOPE, expressed through prayer for the coming of Messiah. The long wait would soon be over, or that was the hope of the people of God. The world was ripe for destruction or redemption. God chose to redeem the world!  

NMI Priority: Prayer for our world and those who have not yet heard the good news that Christ came into the world to redeem and to restore, not to destroy.
